National Programs
These programs run nationally rather than from a single address near you. Some route families to a local league; others are the governing body your child's club already belongs to. Here's what each one actually does.
National programs
Run nationally by RCX Sports for the NBA and WNBA
Jr. NBA / Jr. WNBA Leagues
- Sports
- Basketball (recreational league play), plus a referee-development track for high schoolers.
- Ages
- Boys and girls ages 6–14; teams require 8–10 players per roster.
- What it offers
- A seasonal recreational basketball league carrying the NBA/WNBA brand, run locally by schools, parks departments, community organisations and independent operators vetted by RCX Sports. It is a licensing and branding programme layered over local league operators — not run by NBA or WNBA team staff.
- Cost
- Not published nationally — set independently by each local league operator.
- How a family uses it
- Search the League Finder by ZIP to see whether an active chapter exists nearby. Coverage is not guaranteed in any given city in any given season — it depends entirely on whether a local operator signed on that year.
Major League Baseball, as a national participation campaign
MLB Play Ball
- Sports
- Baseball and softball.
- Ages
- Not confirmed with a sourced age range.
- What it offers
- A national campaign encouraging kids to play baseball or softball in any format — formal league, backyard pickup, clinics — with MLB promoting participating local programmes under the Play Ball banner rather than running its own leagues.
- Cost
- Not published — it is an awareness campaign rather than a programme with a fee.
- Finder link
- No working locator URL could be confirmed.
- How a family uses it
- In practice LA families meet Play Ball through team-run events — for example the Angels’ free clinics, which MLB’s own materials name as a Play Ball Weekend event. No separate standalone Play Ball registration path was found in this market.
Major League Baseball nationally; each team runs its own local chapter
MLB RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities)
- Sports
- Baseball and softball.
- Ages
- Varies by chapter; the LA Dreamteam chapter serves approximately ages 5–15.
- What it offers
- MLB’s flagship programme for expanding baseball and softball access in underserved communities — equipment, coaching and structured league play, delivered locally through each team’s foundation and community partners rather than by MLB itself.
- Cost
- Not published at national level; the local Dreamteam delivery sites did not publish a fee either.
- How a family uses it
- There is no national RBI sign-up. In this corridor the way in is the Dodgers Foundation’s Dreamteam programme, through whichever delivery site serves your area — City of LA Recreation & Parks, or the West San Gabriel Valley Boys & Girls Club, which is listed in our directory.
A national nonprofit, separate from the U.S. Soccer Federation
US Soccer Foundation
- Sports
- Soccer.
- Ages
- Not confirmed with a sourced age range.
- What it offers
- Free or low-cost after-school soccer programming and access to built or refurbished mini-pitch fields in underserved neighbourhoods, delivered through local host-site partners — schools, parks, community centres — that the Foundation funds rather than staffs.
- Cost
- Not confirmed with a source.
- Local sites
- Whether an active local mini-pitch or Soccer for Success site currently exists in this corridor could not be confirmed.
- How a family uses it
- Check the Foundation’s own site directly for any currently active site near you.
USA Volleyball’s regional governing body, created July 2025
SCSN — Southern California / Southern Nevada
- Sports
- Volleyball — indoor junior club, girls’ and boys’ divisions.
- Ages
- 11U through 18U, by birthdate cutoff, across an Open Division and a Club Division.
- What it offers
- SCSN is the governing and sanctioning body rather than a programme a family joins. It organises the competitive structure every junior club in the region operates under — 191 member clubs, age divisions, the tournament calendar and background-screened coaching standards. Your real touchpoint is one of those clubs.
- Cost
- Junior athlete membership $78; adult membership $78; club registration $250; tournament entry $375 per team per day; late entry $50. These are SCSN/USAV registration fees — each club sets its own separate dues.
- Replaces SCVA
- USA Volleyball created SCSN in July 2025 to replace SCVA as the regional governing body. SCVA remains a separate older nonprofit but now only retains a carve-out to run a couple of legacy tournaments; it is no longer the operating body for club and junior registration.
- How a family uses it
- Find and try out for one of the 191 member clubs, then complete SCSN/USAV individual membership through that club, which must itself be SCSN-registered. Tryout windows are set annually by age group.
Regional leagues and governing bodies
The regional association of USA Track & Field
USATF Southern California
- Sport
- Track and field / cross country
- Ages

- The regional USATF association, run from an administrative office in Cerritos rather than a venue families attend. Meets and events are held at member track facilities across the region, including Cerritos College.
- How a family joins
- Through a member club or by entering a sanctioned meet — the association sanctions competition rather than running a programme you enrol in directly.
Sanctioned by US Squash
SoCal Junior Squash League
- Sport
- Squash
- Ages
- Junior — exact age range not published
- What it is
- An inter-club junior league rather than a venue, with teams of five players drawn from as far north as Santa Barbara and as far south as San Diego. The 2026 season final tournament was held at LA Squash.
- How a family joins
- Through a member club — your child plays for a club that enters the league, not for the league itself.
US Squash with the City of Los Angeles
US Squash / City of Los Angeles PlayLA Squash
- Sport

USA Cycling’s recognised regional governing body
SCNCA — Southern California / Nevada Cycling Association

- Junior — exact age range not published

- How a family joins
- Join one of the listed member junior teams directly rather than SCNCA itself.
A project league of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association
Golden State South NICA (GoSo MTB)
- Sport
- Cycling / mountain biking
- Ages
- Grades 5–12 (middle and high school)
- What it is
- Founded in 2023 with an inaugural season in 2025, operating across a wide geographic area rather than from one facility.
- How a family joins
- Join or start a local team — school-based or composite. The league requires at least one adult coach per six riders.
